Film Friday: Being There

I love this film. The innocence of Chance the Gardener is so adorable and wonderful. I’ve never seen a film like this one.

Of course I’m also madly in love with Peter Sellers.

Also I love Shirley McClaine.

Definitely check it out.

This is just like television, only you can see much further.

Also, the ending is magical.

Movie Monday: My Afternoons with Margueritte

20140424-222525.jpg

It stars Gerard Depardieu which on it’s own would be enough to win me over.

It’s about a sweet, illiterate man who befriends an old woman who lovingly teaches him how to read and what it’s like to be appreciated.

It’s a love story. Not a romance. More like soulmates.

“It’s not a typical love affair, but love and tenderness, both are there. Named after a daisy, she lived amongst words, surrounded by adjectives in green fields of verbs. Some force you yield to. But she, with soft art, passed through my hard shield and into my heart. Not always are love stories just made of love. Sometimes love is not named but it’s love just the same. This is not a typical love affair I met her on a bench in my local square. She made a little stir, tiny like a bird with her gentle feathers. She was surrounded by words, some as common as myself. She gave me books, two or three Their pages have come alive for me. Don’t die now, you’ve still got time, just wait It’s not the hour, my little flower Give me some more of you. More of the life in you Wait Not always are stories just made of love Sometimes love is not named. But it’s love just the same”

Movie Monday: Sweet Land

20130204-091614.jpg

20130204-091622.jpg
I really loved this movie. I watched it from Netflix. It is striking in its simplicity. 20130204-091627.jpgIt’s a story being told to a grandson. The grandmother’s memory of coming to Minnesota from Germany as a mail-order bride. 20130204-091633.jpgWe see everything through her eyes, vivid and real.
20130204-091639.jpgThe characters are richly written and easy to fall in love with. 20130204-091644.jpgIt’s beautiful and not sappy or corny.
